Chi nnicchi e nnacchi’s holiday houses are set in the Tono bay in Milazzo, at the bottom of the Western seafront that the people from Milazzo call a ‘ngònia o tonu, from the ancient Greek word ‘ngonia which means corner. Actually there is a beach there that stretches straight ahead then it turns and it finally becomes a rocky cape thus giving us one of the most beautiful beaches in Sicily with an amazing view overlooking the Patti Gulf, the Aeolian islands, the castle, the Etna volcano and Tindari.
Around the district of tonnaroti
The Tono bay is also the area where the old tuna fishery of Milazzo was based as well as the old warehouses and the buildings belonging to the two aristocratic families, D’Amico and Calapaj who also owned the Tono tuna fishery.
Behind the tiny church dedicated to the Madonna of Tindari, the tonnaroti (tuna fishermen) used to make and maintain the fishing equipment.
A path leading towards an amazing breathless view is still passable and along the way you can bump into a votive shrine dating back to 1907 which was constructed in honour of Maria Consolatrice of the tuna fishermen.

A casa di nonna Maria
Nel quartiere del Tono, fra le bellezze naturalistiche della baia, le attività della tonnara di Milazzo e i riti della comunità dei pescatori, ha vissuto nostra nonna Maria.
Una donna con un grande amore per le piante, i fiori e le espressioni in dialetto, come ad esempio “Chi nnicchi e nnacchi?”. Un’espressione siciliana che deriva dal latino arcaico Ki hic in hac? che letteralmente significa Cosa c’entra questo con quello? e che generalmente si usa nel caso di un discorso o una situazione che non sta né in cielo né in terra.
Così, quando abbiamo dovuto scegliere quale nome dare alle nostre case vacanza, abbiamo subito fatto appello al dialetto di nonna Maria. Una lingua che ha assimilato espressioni provenienti da lingue e luoghi diversi e che ha memoria di fatti e aneddoti relative a storie e persone nelle quali tutti possono riconoscersi. Una lingua che viene dal cuore della nostra identità.
In fondo, quello che desideriamo, è farti sentire a casa tua, ispirati dalla bellezza, dalla storia e dalle tradizioni dei nostri luoghi di origine.
